Notice a change? Get it checked
Clothes taking longer than usual to dry, the outside of the dryer getting very hot, a hot or damp laundry room, an outside vent flap that does not open, and a burning smell are all reasons to have the dryer and its vent looked at. None of these points to a single cause; the appliance itself may need attention.
If you smell burning, stop using the dryer until it has been checked. If there is smoke or you suspect a fire, get everyone outside and call 911. A quote request is not an emergency service.
Everyday maintenance matters
The U.S. Fire Administration advises cleaning the lint filter before or after each load, checking that venting is not damaged or restricted, and making sure the outdoor vent flap opens when the dryer runs. It also recommends having dryers installed and serviced by a professional.
What to share when you ask for help
Tell the contractor whether the dryer is gas or electric, where it is in the house, where the vent comes out if you know, and what changed. Mention a roof or upper-floor outlet before the visit. Do not climb onto the roof to look yourself.
What to ask before booking
Ask whether the quote covers the whole vent run, the outside outlet and a check of visible connection problems. Ask whether appliance repairs are offered or need a different provider. A written scope makes it easy to tell cleaning apart from repairs.
